More than ever, services of all types and distributed systems are present in all areas of the socio-economic world whether public or private.
Over the past three decades, the technological revolution has opened up wholly new avenues via which to pursue people-centric change and needs, providing innovative ways and tools to be instrumentalized in service design. The dominance of services, then, and the transformation of business models to accommodate this, is not a new phenomenon. However, servitization has since received extensive attention since both the object of servitization and the means by which it is realized have evolved significantly, not to mention impacts and new concerns of all kinds, especially those related to the new oil of business, namely Data collected, produced under different conditions, provided by any means and integrated to answer increasingly complex, relational and analytical queries.
At the same time, modern distributed systems and their computing continuum, are increasingly evolving, facing new issues and also dealing with uncertain scenarios, where environments, infrastructures and applications are widely diversified. In the context of IoT-Edge-Cloud computing, new principles and mechanisms are to be explored to help build more trustable, reliable, and flexible solutions that can scale across different environments.
In this talk, we will introduce some assumptions, discuss the opportunities as well as the underlying challenging issues, and browse some contributions and developments addressed in recent projects, particularly in the SuMMIT project: multi-cloud service for intelligent mass integration of heterogeneous data for multi-device environments, funded by the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region.
